Morrill Elementary School

The Morrill Lions Wrestling team came and spoke with us a morning meeting. We learned a lot about grit & determination from them. Our school is well represented by these athletes. We've enjoyed watching so many of them grow up from their days at the elementary. We are proud to cheer them on!

FREE TUTORING Provided by Nebraska SMART / Nebraska SMART is a free virtual tutoring program for students in grades K-12. Teacher education candidates from Chadron State, Peru State, and Wayne State Colleges remotely tutor students in Educational Service Units 1, 4, and 13 through an online tutoring platform. This program is made possible by a Nebraska Department of Education grant awarded to the Nebraska State College System to launch a rural tutoring program. Nebraska SMART’s official launch date to tutor students in grades K-12 was February 5, 2024. Tutoring hours are 3:30-6:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Parents who wish to gain access to tutoring must register their child(ren) by visiting www.nscs.edu/NebraskaSMART. Parents must first create an account and register their child(ren). Once parents have created their account and added their child(ren), the student (or parent on their behalf) can schedule a tutoring appointment. Students can also join on-demand tutoring to be connected with the next available Tutor. We kicked off Read Across America week with books, jammies, and Den friends. Each Den got together & spent time reading books. We had students reading to themselves or with a buddy. Even our teachers got in a little reading time. Reading is key to being a life long learner!

2024 Mitchell Organized Baseball / The attached registration form was sent home with students on January 31, 2024. This program is being offered through Mitchell Organized Baseball for children ages 4-18 years. Just a reminder that early bird registration prices end on March 15th. If you are interested, please follow the instructions on the form to register your child. Thank you!

Many thanks to the Morrill Elementary PTO and everyone who brought treats, snacks, and dinner for hungry teachers during conferences. We appreciate you! Also, thank you to the families that came to conferences! We love talking with you about your student. We are proud of our PRIDE!

February is a short month, but our Lions packed a lot of amazing accomplishments in to it! We are so proud of our new group of Lions of the month. These students are setting great examples for their peers.

Morrill Elementary will be doing a Butter Braid Fundraiser from March 1st - 11th, 2024. All order forms along with the money collected, will need to be returned to the elementary school by Monday, March 11th. The orders will be available for pick-up on Thursday, March 28th at Morrill Elementary just before Easter. The Top Sellers have the chance to earn some amazing prizes!! All proceeds earned from the fundraiser help support our Den Days, Next Level Days, and multiple other fun student activities!! Please encourage your student(s) as they take on the challenge of selling and representing our school!! Your student(s) will be coming home with their Butter Braid packet today and the attached flyers will have all of the details about our fundraiser. Thanks everyone for your support!!!

Read Across America Week - March 4th-6th / Celebrate with us March 4th-6th for Read Across America Week!! We have some fun dress-up days planned and would love for our students to participate and get creative! Thank you!

This Lion was caught being a great friend and was asked to be our next Junior Counselor. When a friend is down, Breyer will swoop in to encourage them and turn their day around. We are lucky to have him and his warm smile at MES.

Open House for Solar Project 3-5-24 As we navigate the discussions surrounding the solar farm project south of Stegall, it is important to acknowledge the uncertainties and assumptions that often accompany such activities. In order to foster a better understanding of the project. We have arranged for representatives of the project to host an open house presentation and question-and-answer session. This opportunity will enable us to gather information and engage in constructive dialogue about the project's implications.
