Morrill Public School District is committed to empowering students to become confident, knowledgeable, productive, and responsible citizens of a diverse, ever-changing world.
Superintendent, Joe Sherwood
I was born in Los Angeles, CA and lived there, Tuscon, AZ, and Chicago, IL until I was six when my family moved to Orlando, FL. I graduated from Boone High School in Orlando, FL in 1981 and went to Citadel Bible College in Ozark, AR to study for the ministry. While there I met my wife Michele, who grew up in north western Kansas. I graduated from Citadel in 1986 and married Michele in May, 1987. I worked in Orlando as a Youth Pastor for four years and also managed for a Subway franchise of 39 stores for three and a half years. From there we moved to Tulsa, OK where I was the Youth and Evangelism pastor for Tulsa Bible Church for three years.
We have lived in Nebraska now for 23 years. I was the head administrator at Parkview Christian School in Lincoln for eleven years, then Superintendent in Pender for 3 years, Tryon for 7 years, and now have been at Morrill since June 2015. I earned my MA in Educational Administration in 1996 from UNL, my Educational Administration Specialist Endorsement in 2004, and completed all but the dissertation on my Educational Administration Doctorate from UNL as well. Michele and I have three children and 5 grandchildren. We love it here in Morrill, our school, church, and community are just what we prayed for.
It is a privilege to work with a progressive and vision-focused school board. Many boards have great visions, but I have never worked with a board as committed to their vision as the board here in Morrill. They demonstrate this commitment by their willingness to align the resources to accomplish the vision. The board has set out to become the most progressive district in the valley when it comes to technology. As a result since July 2015 we have gone 1 to 1 for teachers, 1 to 1 for 3rd-12th grade students, we have 50 iPads in the preschool-2nd grade classrooms, and we have 10-station 3D virtual computing lab, called zSpace. The devices are great and the students enjoy them, but we desire to do way more than put devices in the hands of our learners, we want teachers to utilize the devices to redesign the learning experiences of students. Our students collaborate locally and globally, they problem solve, and use technology to enhance creativity, curiosity, and engagement.
