Tik Toc Challenge

Morrill Schools' Response to the Challenge 12-17-2021

Morrill Public Schools

District # 79-0011

Date: December 16, 2021

Subject: Nationwide Tik Tok Challenge

Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and Community Members.

The Morrill School Administration became aware of a troubling post that has been shared widely this week on the social media platform tiktok, the post refers to a threat to school safety "for every school in the USA, even elementary." on Friday, December 17, 2021.

The post appears to be a part of a national Tik Tok trend and did not originate in our district. We have heard reports from other districts and from other states about this post.  While we have been told that that the threat is not credible, we will closely monitor the school day tomorrow and take it seriously.

We have already contacted the Morrill Police Department and the Nebraska State Patrol requesting law enforcement presence in our schools during the school day tomorrow and during the basketball games tomorrow night. We deeply appreciate their assistance.

We are taking extra precautions and will be very attentive to keep students and staff safe throughout the day. Each building tomorrow will take additional measures and the staff will be extra attentive to student conversations and student behavior tomorrow.

If you or your child ever become aware of a threat to school safety or talk of school violence please contact a school official immediately, encourage your child to talk to a trusted adult, not only regarding the current situation.

Our school board, administration and staff will always be vigilant to provide a safe learning environment for all of our students.

Sincerely,

Joe Sherwood, Superintendent
