Class of 2020 throwing their caps-Holly Walter

While the COVID-19 pandemic has caused the world to stop, it did not keep Morrill High School from celebrating their graduating class of 2020. A graduation ceremony was held on Friday evening, June 26th, in the Elementary gym with some added precautions so families, faculty, and the community could what their kids graduate.

By following the Governor of the Nebraska and the CDC guidelines, each graduate was allowed to have family members attend sitting in groups six feet apart from other family units. Faculty was able to enjoy the commencement in a set of bleachers, along with the Board of Education members and school Administration on either side of the stage.

Speeches were given by the call Valedictorian Christine Humphrey, and Salutatorian Sadie Cooley, both reminisced with their class of all the ups and downs within the walls of Morrill Public Schools and how it shaped them for this day. Nick Cooley, the keynote speaker, gave each student, and audience member, to ponder as they move onto the next chapter.

Principal Tom Peacock addressed each senior to come and receive their diplomas from the table in the front. Then congratulating the class as a whole, officated them from students to graduates complete with throwing their caps in the air.

A huge thank you to all who assisted in making this graduation happen in this trying time. Especially to Principal Tom Peacock, Senior Class Sponsor Traci Patterson, Supertinent Joe Sherwood, The Morrill Board of Education, Brad Derr and the maintenance staff, Janelle Johnson, Tory Bauer, and other members of the Morrill High School Faculty who made this day happen.   It was not a graduation we expected, but it was one the Class of 2020 deserved. Thank you!
